Celebrate hero imam

IN every terrorist attack we find evil is countered by bravery and London Muslim imam Mohammed Mahmoud is a hero for avoiding potentially more bloodshed by protecting the suspected assailant.

He is a man of peace and his call for calm, respected by those around him, was inspirational. Worshippers were justifiably seething after a van driver had mown down innocents before reportedly shouting he was going to kill all Muslims.

The attack in Finsbury Park is the fourth in a few months, leaving many dead and injured.

This assailant was an Islamophobe, the others were Islamists, but all were extremists and enemies of the people. We must never let them turn communities against each other.

The extreme Far Right with its poisonous, racist ideology is a menace and the Finsbury Park killing occurred just after the anniversary of a neo Nazi assassinating Labour MP Jo Cox.

Let us condemn the terrorist and celebrate the imam, the religious leader who proved again that more unites us than divides us.
