M&S pioneers fruit ‘tattoos’
MARKS & Spencer has become the first firm to use fruit “tattooing” to cut paper waste from labelling.
The chain is using lasers to score avocado skins with its logo, a best before date and country of origin.
The move should save 10 tonnes of paper and five tonnes of glue per year.
M&S fruit expert Charlie Curtis said: “We could look at rolling the technology out to other fruit and vegetables. We have the potential to reduce packaging exponentially.”
