Wildlife cameraman Charlie Hamilton James is a self-confessed otter fanatic. He even once adopted an orphan otter, Honey, who became part of his family.
“I could happily do nothing else in my life but hang with otters,” he says, just in case we weren’t convinced of his love for the furry creatures.
Otters are not just cute, they are also playful, adaptable and champion swimmers, masters of both land and water. “They are survivors, supercharged with an incredible array of skills,” says Charlie, who has been filming them for years.
Now he follows the progress of three other orphans as they grow up in an American rehab sanctuary, from being fed chopped fish and milk formula to learning how to hunt for themselves.
The baby otters also go for a dip in a paddling pool to learn not to be afraid of water. Strangely, their coats are not waterproof until they are 12 weeks old.
