Konta: I’ll bounce back to my best
JOHANNA KONTA insists she will battle back from her shock final collapse ahead of her return to action today. The Brit (left) blew a chance to end a 36-year wait for a home winner at a British WTA event with a three-set defeat to Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the Nottingham Open final on Sunday. Vekic (above), the world No.70, rallied spectacularly to beat British No.1 Konta 2-6 7-6 7-5. But the pair could face each other again later this week in the last eight of the Aegon Classic in Birmingham. No.4 seed Konta, who opens against Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko, said: “Overall I felt it was a positive week for me and also a great week from which to learn.
“I think I actually played a lot of really good grass court players as well.
“I’m quite pleased how I was able to deal with some of the challenges they were throwing at me. It was also nice to play a few matches in succession.
“I do enjoy the grass, but most importantly, I’m just looking to adapt well on the surface and just really compete well each tournament that I get to play.”
