LANCE COOKS UP A STORM
WOMEN’S CRICKET
DOPE cheat Lance Armstrong is facing a backlash after wading into a row over who runs cycling.
Armstrong was stripped of his seven Tour de France wins after being unmasked as a serial drug cheat fuelled by banned blood-booster EPO.
But he has entered the debate about the presidential election at world governing body UCI. Current chief Brian Cookson, who was British Cycling president for 17 years before taking over, is up against Frenchman David Lappartient at the September ballot.
And Armstrong pitched into the campaign by tweeting: “ABC (Anyone but Cookson).”
Cookson could be damaged by the independent review into the “culture and climate” of the GB team on his watch.
But he said: “I strongly believe my record of restoring integrity and credibility to the UCI will be judged favourably.” CHARLOTTE EDWARDS has saluted the ICC’s plans to make women’s cricket a global success.
The women’s World Cup starts this week in England with prize money doubled to £1.5million and the hosts’ former skipper Edwards (left) said: “Cricket is leading the way in women’s sport.
“The ICC have to be applauded for their investment in the game.”
