PM apology for botched aid reaction

-

GROVELLING Theresa May finally apologised to Grenfell Tower victims over the botched response to the fire tragedy.

The PM yesterday admitted there had been a failure to help people “when they needed it most”.

She told MPs: “As Prime Minister, I apologise for that failure.” Mrs May had been criticised for initially failing to meet blaze survivors.

She made a trip to the tower last Thursday to meet firefighters then to a local crisis centre a day later.

The Tory leader said: “Let me be absolutely clear, the support on the ground for families in the initial hours was not good enough.

“People were left without belongings, without roofs over their heads, without basic information about what they should do and where they could seek help.

“That was a failure of the state, local and national, to help people when they needed it most.

“As Prime Minister, I apologise for that failure and, as Prime Minister, I’ve taken responsibility for doing what we can to put things right.”

Jeremy Corbyn told the Commons something had gone “horrifically wrong” and victims were “entitled to answers”.
