Call to outlaw plastic surgery games aimed at youngsters
CHILDREN as young as nine are being targeted by online plastic surgery games and apps, a report warns today.
Apps with names such as Plastic Surgery Princess, Little Skin Doctor and Pimp My Face, could be fuelling an epidemic of mental health problems, experts said.
The Nuffield Council on Bioethics wants the apps and games banned and is calling for changes to cosmetic procedures, saying boob jobs, nose alterations, fillers and skin lightening are largely unregulated. Jeanette Edwards, of the University of Manchester, said advertisers and social media bombarded kids with “discriminatory messages on how people, especially girls, ‘should’ look”. Plastic surgeon Mark Henley, of the group, said: “We would like a ban, but what we want far more is for society to recognise just how revolting they are.”
