1937: Joe Louis knocked out defending champion James J Braddock in Chicago to become world heavyweight champion.
2004: Inverness were promoted to the Scottish Premier League when top-flight clubs voted in their favour after they appealed against a decision to reject them.
2010: France captain Patrice Evra was dropped to the bench for his side’s World Cup match against South Africa after a row between the squad and coach Raymond Domenech.
