For our Nell . . . a girl who shouldn’t have died

Nell Jones DISTRAUGHT family and friends paid an emotional farewell to Nell Jones, the schoolgirl killed a month ago at Manchester Arena.

Hundreds packed into St Michael and All Angels Church in Middlewich, Cheshire, including 120 students from nearby Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School.

More mourners gathered outside in the rain to listen to the hymns and moving speeches.

Her brother Sam said: “She thought the world of her friends, she loved her family. We were so lucky to have her with us.”

And her headteacher Denis Oliver said: “It was amazing. It was all I could do not to cry. At a funeral for a girl who shouldn’t have died, we have to celebrate the things that were positive — and there are so many.”

Nell, at her first pop concert, was five yards from Salman Abedi when he detonated his nail bomb.
