Search for girl after second major cliff fall in two days

- BY MARTIN BAGOT

A CLIFF collapse sparked a search yesterday after a girl was seen walking along the ridge before it crashed down.

She was eventually found safe, but not before rescuers searched 50,000 tonnes of chalk in Seaford, East Sussex. Crews trawled through the rubble after a 999 caller reported seeing the girl in the area just before the collapse.

The Coastguard and Mari- time Agency said it was “urgently looking for a female”, before tweeting: “The female was seen walking away from the cliff fall safe and well.”

It came a day after a chunk of rock collapsed on the same stretch of coast Splash Point, which also sparked a huge search, but no one was hurt. In nearby Cuckmere Haven, a body was found yesterday after reports that a woman was seen falling from a cliff.
