Piers looks set to knock us dead with this serial thriller
While promoting last night’s
Killer Women, Piers Morgan said convicted killer Rebecca Fenton was the best liar he had ever encountered.
That’s a pretty bold claim, especially when you consider the number of times he has interviewed politicians on Good Morning Britain.
Not to mention the number of times he has believed all those tailors who’ve told him: “Don’t worry, Piers – of course those buttons will hold.”
Piers is not stupid though. He was simply trying to draw us in. Challenging us to decide for ourselves whether Fenton was capable of blasting her husband to death with a handgun.
That’s basically what Killer Women is. It’s The Jeremy Kyle Show for murderers.
In fact, I’m sure if some ITV executives had their way the show would end with Piers revealing the lie detector results.
Fortunately, Piers and his team always manage to stay on the right side of grubby and exploitative.
Killer Women simply tells a gripping story without sensationalising it.
What makes it such compelling viewing, though, are the one-on-one interviews in those clinical prison meeting rooms.
I mean, we all know there must be a camera crew in there with them. There’s probably a couple of armed guards out of shot as well.
However, that doesn’t ruin the tension one bit. I can’t be the only person watching who fears that the killer might lose control at any minute and go for Piers.
Although obviously, for some viewers I appreciate it will be more a case of “hopes” than “fears”.
