Over 8 in 10 teachers see hungry pupils
ABOUT 82% of teachers see teenagers arriving for school hungry each day.
Researchers found 40% believed the problem was hard-up parents.
And the Kellogg’s study also revealed nearly half of teachers said 11 to 16-yearolds do not understand why they need a good breakfast to learn well.
Hunger in class hit concentration, according to 73%, while 28% said it caused misbehaviour.
In a further study, nearly half of children had been to a breakfast club in primary school – but only a fifth at secondary.
Jo Nicholas of the Children’s Food Trust said: “The survey results indicate a breakfast club for young people in secondary education would still be a wise investment.”
