BEATEN JO DOES NOT HAVE A MAGIC VAND
JOHANNA KONTA insisted her Wimbledon preparations have not been disrupted despite being blown away by Coco Vandeweghe.
The British No.1 and world No.7 went down 6-1 6-3 to the unseeded American in 65 minutes at the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.
She trailed 5-0 in the opening set against big-hitting Vandeweghe and there was ironic applause when she finally won a game.
Konta, who suffered a shock defeat to world No.70 Donna Vekic on Sunday in the Nottingham Open final – also on grass, said: “Me losing in the second round against a player who’s very good on this surface is by no means a blow.
“Just because I’m No.7 in the world doesn’t mean I’m entitled to win every match. I think I actually played two very good matches here.”
