Cova will have us in clover

-

FOLLOWING two days dissecting races on the straight track, we are back on the round course for the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (5.35).

As ever with big fields on this course, you are best with a high draw away from the rails.

The reason for this is everyone will want to get over towards the fence from the break thus increasing the chances of those already there getting hampered.

Today’s principle trends to follow are:

A winner over a mile and a-quarter and have scored in at least two handicaps Aged four or five Finished in top three last time out Ran in Class 2 last time Drawn in double figures

Those statistics lead us to CAPE COVA who is visored for the first time today.

This is a rare Royal Ascot event to evade John Gosden but he looks to have trained this four-year-old to put the record straight.

A three-time winner last season, Cape Cova stepped up on a modest comeback effort with a cracking run back at Newmarket last month, where he gave the impression that running over a mile and threequarters stretched his stamina in this class.

Today’s drop in trip in a strongly run race will suit this strong-traveller and he looks the value in one of the week’s weaker races.

Have 2pts each-way at 18-1 where you can get it.
