Over! Cricket hero Blowers hangs up mic
CRICKET commentator Henry Blofeld – famed for talking about pigeons, cakes and buses as much as the action – is retiring.
“Blowers”, 77, has been part of Radio 4’s Test Match Special for 45 years.
He said: “You haven’t heard my final ‘My Dear Old Thing’ quite yet.” He will quit after England’s Test against West Indies at Lord’s in September.
Blofeld added: “The time has come for the last of the old farts to hang up his microphone. Although I am still rather keener than mustard, I find it harder work than I once did.”
TMS colleague Jonathan Agnew said: “I’ll miss Henry. His enthusiasm, his company, his chaos.
“Henry … really set up Test Match Special.”
