The Manchester City boss has promised his team will be title contenders after finishing his first campaign in English football empty-handed.

Guardiola vowed: “I know always when you win you are a God and it’s good.

“We will be better next season.”

The Spaniard endured his first season without silverware as a manager as City came third, 15 points behind champions Chelsea.

But after three weeks’ holiday in Barcelona, he is relishing the start of pre-season next month.

Playing in the Icons of Football golf tournament at The Belfry, he said: “I was so happy in Manchester, being manager there and that’s why I will be so delighted to return on July 10 and start again.”
