Beer thrown at Atzeni

A PINT of beer was hurled at Andrea Atzeni (above) and his mount Appeared as they cantered to post for the concluding Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot yesterday.

“We were about half a furlong down the track and someone threw it from near the rail,” explained the jockey. “It missed the horse’s head by about 18 inches but luckily he didn’t spook because he didn’t see it.”

Ascot’s Nick Smith commented: “Obviously it’s not satisfactory and we are going to review our stewarding in that area as part of our debrief.”
