1st woman to lead Guard

THE Queen’s Guard will get its first ever female Captain on Monday.

Canadian Megan Couto will lead The 2nd Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry as it Mounts the Guard at Buckingham Palace.

Captain Couto, 24, said: “It is a huge privilege.”

It usually falls to the Household Division, which is mostly male. Defence Secretary Michael Fallon said “I’ve always wanted roles to be determined by ability, not gender.”
