Son in botched hit plot over £240,000 will gets 25yrs’ jail

- BY LOUIE SMITH

A SON who hired a hitman to murder his stepdad so he would inherit a £240,000 home was jailed for 25 years.

When Flash Day, 46, found his late mother had not left all the property to him, he ordered Ryan Hynes, 22, to kill John Sales.

But John, 70, who was stabbed 11 times, rang 999 and survived.

After Day was found guilty of murder conspiracy John’s family thanked surgeons for saving his life. DI Al Pitcher said of the attack in 2015 in Colchester, Essex: “This was an horrific act born out of sheer greed. “Day carefully planned the attack and went to great lengths to try and get rid of evidence.” Chelmsford crown court heard police recovered deleted texts from Day’s phone. Hynes, of Lawford, Essex, admitted attempted murder and conspiracy and got 17 years three months’ jail.
