Patients call for CF drug fund

-

PATIENTS will protest at Parliament over being denied a cystic fibrosis “wonder drug”.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence last year rejected Orkambi for 3,000 NHS patients on cost grounds. It is the first therapy to treat the cause of cystic fibrosis.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust said the drug almost halves the rate of lung function decline in patients.

Liam McHugh, of Castlederg in Northern Ireland, plans to attend.

His daughter, Rachel, 25, got Orkambi in a clinical trial. He said: “For Rachel, it has been a wonder drug.”
