Opt-out donor system saves lives
THE Mirror’s Change the Law for Life campaign is calling on the Government to introduce an opt-out organ donation system.
Last year Wales moved to the system, which assumes every adult consents unless they state otherwise.
In the year following the changes there, 160 organs were transplanted – 39 of which came through deemed consent, saving dozens of lives.
Scotland is in the middle of a public consultation over changing the law.
In 2016, 463 people – adults and children – died waiting for a transplant in England and Wales.
