Brexit’s looking a Right shambles

-

Scores dead in London as a result of an unsafe tower block, a rise in hate crime, dozens dead in Manchester and London as a result of terrorism – all at a time when the number of police are being cut.

Add to that the fact that people are suffering from cuts to the NHS, the infrastructure being in a horrendous state, a massive increase in the use of food banks and so on.

Also, Britain is likely to be fragmented – with independence for Scotland and real concerns about the future of Northern Ireland and Gibraltar.

Yet, incredibly, the Government is embarking on a very expensive and damaging Brexit at a cost of billions of pounds and lasting decades for virtually no gain.

Brexit needs to be looked at again, this time based on the real facts.

The election was a massive vote against austerity and a hard Brexit. The people must be listened to.

Peter Courts, Redditch, Worcs

# It’s been a year since the EU referendum. Since then, all we’ve had is waffle. We didn’t vote for a soft or hard exit – we voted to leave the EU. I can’t help feeling that the delay is deliberate and that sooner or later Brexit will be ignored. It only strengthens my belief that most people in this country count for nothing. Unless we stand up and demand action regarding our vote, even that will be taken away. D O’Connor Burnham-On-Crouch, Essex # Is it too late to stop the Brexit negotiations? I ask this because I believe that this Tory government has neither the skill nor the mandate to broker a deal for our country.

Why doesn’t the Labour Party call for another referendum, and this time include the age group that had no say in their future – the 16 and 17-year-olds? Surely this is only fair?

W E Williams, Pontyberem, Carms

# Theresa May is not fit to lead Britain’s exit from the EU, but neither is Jeremy Corbyn fit to lead Brexit, or indeed the Labour Party.

Let’s get Nigel Farage to lead the Brexit talks. He has the fight and guts to stand up to the EU leaders, as he has done as an MEP.

Jeff Burton Stockton-onTees, Teesside

# I must confess I didn’t vote in the referedum because I didn’t have a clue.

Now the talks have begun, confess I still don’t have a clue what is happening.

I’m sure of one thing, however, and that is that the NHS will not get the £350million promised by the Brexiteers. Worse still, if May gets the push, one of them could take her place – and Britain will become a bigger laughing stock than America currently is with Trump as President.

Michael Bell, Newcastle upon Tyne

# Just as a matter of interest, who exactly is in the Brexit negotiating team? All we hear is David Davis this and David Davis that. He is known to want to leave Europe at any cost. The team should be a cross-party representation of the electorate.

R Tandy Liverpool

# Considering the mess this country is in politically, surely the Government should postpone Brexit talks until we have a stable regime in place? Alan Reed Stockton-on-Tees Teesside
