CARE IS THE VITAL WORD

# With reference to the recent letters regarding recruiting our own young people to train for nursing (Madeuthink, June 20), I trained in the late 60s and was actually paid.

Then, you had three years training, two weeks at a time in nursing school and then six to eight weeks on the wards, working with experienced nurses who were also trained to teach you everything.

Nowadays it’s all about nurses getting degrees – not hands-on people who want to care for the sick. Julia Smith Everton, Liverpool
