CARE IS THE VITAL WORD

-

# With reference to the recent letters regarding recruiting our own young people to train for nursing (Madeuthink, June 20), I trained in the late 60s and was actually paid.

Then, you had three years training, two weeks at a time in nursing school and then six to eight weeks on the wards, working with experienced nurses who were also trained to teach you everything.

Nowadays it’s all about nurses getting degrees – not hands-on people who want to care for the sick. Julia Smith Everton, Liverpool

# I agree with Barry Hampson’s remarks about Britain being one of the richest countries in the world (Madeuthink, June 22). The problem is that 90% of the wealth is in the hands of the richest 10%. D Williams Poole, Dorset

# Ruling the Tory benefit cap unlawful for single parents with children under two years, High Court judge Mr Justice Collins pointed out “...real misery is being caused to no good purpose” – Theresa May’s entire government in a nutshell. Sasha Simic, N London

# I can’t put into words how sad and angry I am about the Grenfell Tower tragedy – and all for the sake of saving a few thousand pounds. My heart goes out to all involved. And a big thank you to those who risked their lives to save others. M A Yaxley Plymouth, Devon
