STEVE WHEELS AWAY WITH A DOUBLE WIN

STEVE CUMMINGS completed a sensational double when he added the British road race title to his National time-trial crown.
The 36-year-old (below) broke away in the final six miles of the 120-mile race on the Isle of Man. The Dimension Data rider managed to stay clear, leaving Chris Lawless and Ian Bibby to complete the podium.
Cummings, who beat Alex Dowsett to the time-trial title on Thursday, is the first man since David Millar in 2007 to do ‘the double’.
“It was a really tough race,” said Cummings.
“But that style of competition is what you miss when you’ve been out injured – it was punchy and explosive.”
Lizzie Deignan, 28, overhauled Elinor Barker in the final stages to claim her fourth National road race title on the Isle of Man.
She said: “It’s great to be in the jersey again. It’s such a difficult race to win – you don’t just need good legs, you need a lot of luck, too.”
