BRAVE YOUNG BRITS LEFT FEELING BRONZED OFF
GREAT BRITAIN missed out on a bronze medal by a single point at the European Athletics Team Championships in Lille.
A young GB team looked set to pip hosts France to third place before a disappointing ninth in the concluding men’s 4x400m saw them overhauled.
Marc Scott was one of the best British finishers on the final day with a second place in the 3,000m to cap a successful GB senior debut.
He said: “For my first senior Great Britain vest I’m really pleased with second place.
“I was beaten by a very good guy in Czech Jakub Holusa, who is a many-time Olympian, and I am feeling pretty good going into trials next week.” Ben Williams also took second place in the men’s triple jump as he leapt to a season’s best of 16.73m.
Germany clinched the overall title with a total of 321.5 points, ahead of Spain on 295, while France just pipped Britain to bronze with 270.
