Hunter hunted as orcas go on the attack
GREAT white sharks may be among nature’s top predators but that does not mean they have it all their own way.
In South Africa, which has one of the world’s biggest populations of the sharks, they are being preyed on by killer whales, which target them for their large nutrient-rich livers.
This week a fourth great white washed up dead on a beach.
All four dead sharks had had their livers removed with “surgical precision”. The country’s Department of Environmental Affairs confirmed orcas were to blame for the attacks.
Sightings of pods off the killer whales there are increasing, and they could be driving endangered great whites away.
