Pell Beds in Saints

MAURICIO PELLEGRINO will make Poland Under-21 defender Jan Bednarek his first signing as Southampton manager.

Saints have agreed a £5million fee with Lech Poznan for the 6ft 2in Bednarek, 21, after having an initial bid rejected.

The south-coast club have been hunting a new centre-back since selling ex-captain Jose Fonte to West Ham in January.

But Bednarek’s arrival at St Mary’s will not affect the future of sought-after Dutchman Virgil van Dijk.

Van Dijk is wanted by a host of top clubs including Chelsea but Saints are determined to keep him.
