‘Donors fund wheelchairs’

PATIENTS are having to crowdfund their wheelchairs because of NHS cuts, a doctor has warned.

Some areas only pay for standard chairs which are so heavy users need to be pushed, the British Medical Association annual meeting heard.

Public gifts funded London junior doctor Hannah Barham-Brown’s £2,000 chair after she was offered just a £140 voucher.

She told the BMA in Bournemouth: “This is totally unacceptable.”
