Indyref2 on hold pending Brexit clarity
NICOLA Sturgeon shelved plans for a second referendum on Scottish independence yesterday.
The First Minister said she would “reset the plan” and wait to see how Brexit talks go before deciding when to hold the vote.
In March, she had said indyref2 would be held as early as Autumn 2018.
But her party struggled in the General Election, losing 21 of its 54 seats. Polls also show a preference for staying in the UK.
Ms Sturgeon said: “Our proposal is not for a referendum now, or before there is sufficient clarity about the options – but rather to give them a choice at the end of the Brexit process when that clarity has emerged.
“The Scottish government will reset the plan I set out on March 13.”
