To hit OAPs hard
Social care axe
ELDERLY people will be hit hardest by £824million social care cuts, experts warn. Soaring numbers of young and middleaged adults with disabilities or mental health problems mean bosses are struggling with resources for OAPs. The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services said more than £1.1billion would be needed just to maintain last year’s level of service. Margaret Willcox, ADASS president, said: “The new Government needs to tackle the chronic underfunding of adult social care which still remains on a cliff edge.” Mark Atkinson, of charity Scope, said: “Without action, we will find ourselves with a shattered care system beyond repair.”
