‘I won’t let kids in the water’

Julie Blanchard, 42, a mum of five from Woking, Surrey, was visiting Hayling Beach, Hants.

She said: “They shouldn’t let kids in the sea. If there’s a lot of people in the water, the shark is going to go nuts. I won’t be going in a dinghy this year.”

Her mother Teresa Hooper, 62, added: “We wouldn’t let the kids in the water now. No way.”

The local council said an emergency plan will kick in if a great white sighting is confirmed.
