Keep lesson for learning and time at home for fun
IT is wonderful to see children playing freely outdoors, learning about nature and each other without adult supervision, taking risks and gaining in independence.
Not that long ago, this was how most children spent most of their time outside of school. Today we cannot let children play unsupervised.
We try to turn their playtime into a learning experience. At the same time, we see school as being too stressful and something children need to be protected from.
As a result, initiatives like the Yurt School blur lessons with play.
The risk is that children lose out on knowledge they can only get through formal teaching.
And play stops being purely about fun.
We should let school be for learning and home time be for play.
