ANDY MURRAY suffered a pre-Wimbledon scare when he pulled out of an exhibition match with a sore hip.

But the World No.1 is confident he will be fit to play at the Aspall Tennis Classic at the Hurlingham Club on Friday.

The Wimbledon champion lost his first grass-court match of the season at Queen’s Club last week and wants more court-time before the defence of his title starts on Monday.

The precautionary withdrawal is the latest setback in a stop-start season where he has had shingles, flu and an elbow injury.

His former coach and ESPN analyst Brad Gilbert said: “It SCIVER Runs ..... 137 Mins ....... 121 Balls ....... 92 4s ............. 14 6s .............. 4 SR ...148.91 KNIGHT Runs ..... 106 Mins ...... 143 Balls ..... 109 4s ............. 12 6s ............... 2 SR .... 97.24 has definitely been a confusing year. I didn’t realise the toll on him last year and having to deal with shingles.

“I do think grass is his best surface. He still moves brilliantly, so can defend and return as well as anybody.”

British No.1 Jo Konta faces a double shift today taking on Romanian Sorana Cirstea – and then French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, if she wins.

Paolo Maldini’s pro tennis debut lasted only 42 minutes as the former Milan defender lost a doubles match in an ATP Challenger event in Italy.

Maldini, 49, and Stefano Landonio lost 6-1 6-1 to Poland’s Tomasz Bednarek and Dutchman David Pel.
