Man escapes serious injury after bus hits him
DRAMATIC CCTV shows the moment an unsuspecting pedestrian is struck by an out-of-control bus.
Amazingly Simon Smith picked himself up after being mown down and showered with scaffolding and other debris.
Daniel Fraifeld, 50, co-owner of the Purple Turtle pub by the crash scene in Reading, Berks, said: “He pretty much brushed himself down, then an ambulance took him to be checked.
“He didn’t have any lasting injuries but he’s covered in scrapes and bruises. He got released from hospital. I think he went for a pint to relax.”
Simon, 53, who went into the pub to raise the alarm, told staff he felt lucky to be alive.
The 12-tonne vehicle also crashed into a bin before hitting a building and the wall of St Mary’s Minster church.
A second person injured by debris was taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital. Reading Buses is investigating the incident. Thames Valley Police said: “We were called to a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian in Gun Street at 9.13am on Saturday.
“The ambulance was called to the scene. The road was closed for about two hours.
“No arrests have been made.”
