THE FINAL HEARTBREAK

Parents’ devastation as European court refuses to save sick baby

- BY BEN ROSSINGTON

THE parents of Charlie Gard have lost a final bid to keep the sick tot alive. Connie Yates and Chris Gard were told European judges would not stop British doctors ending his life support. Connie called the decision “upsetting”.

THE parents of little Charlie have fought courageously to give him what they hoped would be his only chance.

But the weight of medical evidence was overwhelming. Even the US expert who initially offered to help later said he’d not realised the extent of Charlie’s illness.

Any parent would do everything in their power if they believed a miracle might cure their child. But that is why parents aren’t always the best people to make such decisions.

We can only hope the family enjoys moments with Charlie which will provide a lifetime of memories. JUDGES and doctors are clearly suffering from a rare form of heartlessness if they have failed to be moved by Charlie Gard’s parents epic efforts to save their tiny baby.

They are denying Chris and Connie their most basic human right – the right to hope – if there is the slightest chance of a cure.

As for the Hippocratic Oath that these doctors took when they pledged to save lives and serve humanity, let’s rename it the Hypocrite’s Oath.

I bet every one of those who have stood in judgment would fight as hard as Charlie’s mum to save their own child.
