Electrical­s giant Dixons Carphone has dismissed talk of a consumer spending slowdown as full-year profits jumped 10% to a record £501million. The Currys and PC World owner said the high street was “holding up”, as sales rose 4% in the UK and Ireland.

Brits’ app-etite for mobile banking shot up 57% last year as more people used apps to manage their money. Figures from the British Bankers’ Associatio­n show more than 19.6million people used banking apps to make 932million transactio­ns, that’s 30 per second.
