1967: Primo Carnera, once the heaviest world boxing champion, died at the age of 60. He weighed in at 19st 4lb when he made his second defence against Tommy Loughran in 1934.
2009: Wimbledon’s new Centre Court roof was used in a match for the first time in a rain-hit clash between Dinara Safina and Amelie Mauresmo.
2011: Chelsea manager Andre VillasBoas confirmed Roberto Di Matteo as his assistant first-team coach. Di Matteo would later succeed VillasBoas on an interim basis following the sacking of the Portuguese.
