Max needs a heart
BRAVE Max Johnson’s heart is so weakened by a lifethreatening condition that he relies on a mechanical pump – a “bridge to transplant” – to keep him alive.
The once energetic youngster, of Winsford, Cheshire, fell ill last autumn when he became pale, started to lose weight, struggled for breath and had a racing pulse.
He was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy – a condition that causes an enlarged heart.
The nine-year-old had surgery and is now on the urgent list for a donor heart. Mum Emma said: “Max has been in hospital for over six months. For five of those, he’s been waiting for a heart – it just hasn’t come yet.”
