Digital Monday, Disc July 24 The newest version of Hollywood’s biggest beast tore through cinemas and scooped up a monster £442million at the global box office, clearing the way for a sequel. This is a beautifully designed and photographed epic action adventure, which sees Vietnam war-era soldiers trespassing on King Kong’s island home with disastrous consequences. Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L Jackson, John Goodman and Brie Larson make for a great cast, but the script is terrible – wafer-thin characterisation is the norm, and not just of the humans. Never has the big ape so badly lacked personality.
