1 in 10 in UK is foreign-born
NEARLY one in 10 people living in the UK last year was a foreign citizen.
The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development said 5.95 million are from overseas.
But asylum applications fell last year for the first time since 2010, down 7% to 30,600.
For every million people in the UK, 593 asylum applications were filed in 2016. The biggest number of applicants were from Iran, at 4,780, followed by Pakistan (3,701) and Iraq (3,644).
