Grayson’s taking the Cats reins
SIMON GRAYSON cannot wait to get started after taking over as manager at troubled Sunderland.
Preston boss Grayson agreed a three-year contract last night to be David Moyes’ successor.
Grayson said: “I am delighted to come to Sunderland, a club with such wonderful history and tradition. I’m excited by the opportunity and I want to bring the good times back.
“I want to give these fans a team they can be proud of. I want a group of players full of desire, team spirit and a never-say-die attitude – that’s the very least that we should expect from a Sunderland player.
“Our aim has to be to get the club back to where it belongs as quickly as possible – and I can’t wait to get started.”
Grayson, 47, will be asked to work miracles with as little as £6million to rebuild the Black Cats squad.
Owner Ellis Short finally got his man after insisting the club was no longer on the market, and promised “commitment both financially and personally”.
Short had been in talks with a fans’ consortium, another led by ex-Arsenal defender Tony Adams, and a group from Germany.
