Tess Match Special
PM set for Beeb cricket show with hero Boycott
THERESA May could fulfil a childhood dream and appear on the BBC’s Test Match Special cricket show alongside her hero Geoffrey Boycott, the Mirror can reveal.
Producers from the programme are in talks with No10 about the PM going on during England’s series against South Africa. The cricket-loving Tory leader has also been invited to The Oval for next month’s 100th Test. She and husband Philip often watched Surrey at the South London ground when she was a councillor in Wimbledon in the 1980s. A Downing Street source confirmed the PM had been invited to the game and officials were discussing a possible interview with commentator Jonathan Agnew on TMS.
Mrs May has previously said of co-host Boycott: “I have been a Boycott fan all my life.”
She even had a poster of the former England batsman on her bedroom wall as a child.
During the election campaign, she told the Mirror: “The unfortunate thing is my cricket watching has been reduced significantly.”
