Sunshine hol rip-offs ‘cost families £159’
MOST families holidaying abroad pay £159 over the odds for rip-off services, a survey claims.
Exorbitant charges for changing money and skyhigh airline food bills are partly blamed for the total £1.77billion-a-year cost.
Also cited in the Post Office Travel poll are high bills for beach toys and days out together with “unfair” tips and taxi fares.
The survey found for seven in 10 families it adds up to an unnecessary £159. A family of four buying sarnies, crisps and soft drinks will pay £33 on a plane compared with £16 at an airport shop or £12 in a supermarket deal.
And changing £500 into euros gets you £55 more on the high street against rates at Liverpool airport.
