Hell’s rebels! MPs cause a rumpus

- FIONA PARKER

Jeremy Corbyn was right to sack the three shadow frontbenchers. The general election proved that the voters agree with him and the party can get stronger with Corbyn at the helm. Why accept a shadow post if you don’t agree with the leader?

Now is the time for Labour MPs to toe the party line, show unity and stop giving the Tories ammunition.

Brexit is happening – unite with Jeremy to oust this pathetic load of U-turning Tory cling-ons.

Chris Torode, Catterick, North Yorks

# I voted Labour for the first time in my life, but very likely never will again. It’s taken just a couple of weeks for Corbyn to stab people like myself – Europeans – in the back. Both my grandfathers died in the Second World War. For what? For some petty-minded, selfish nationalism? Sure, we have to sort out immigration and the massive unfairness in our society, but do it intelligently, democratically. We need European democracy, with Britain in it. We also need world democracy. We need intelligent, fair-minded thinking at every level of managing this planet.

# Ex-shadow cabinet minister Chuka Umunna is a Blairite through and through. It’s time he was deselected as a Labour MP and replaced with a real socialist. As long as he and his ilk remain in the Labour party, Corbyn will never be able to get on with the good job he has been doing.

Michael Davenport Wilmslow, Cheshire

# Barely three weeks after a much better election result than predicted, Jeremy Corbyn causes a new rift in his party by sacking three frontbench MPs and causing a fourth to resign because they voted in favour of remaining in the single market. I would point out that many people think it’s the right thing to do for the prosperity of the UK.

It seems that Corbyn and Theresa May both want the same thing – a hard Brexit.

Valerie Crews, Beckenham, Kent

# Jeremy Corbyn’s decision to sack shadow ministers who defied his whip on Labour’s Brexit position definitely shows who wears the trousers in the Labour Party – and it’s not the single-market-at-allcosts Europhiles!

Doing better than expected in the general election has given Corbyn a stronger hand to put what the country wants over the wishes of some MPs. Now let’s hope he can get into power and deliver a People’s Brexit.

Richard Buckley Redruth, Cornwall

# When there was a rebellion by frontbenchers recently over Article 50 being triggered, they were given a reprieve and a warning of what would happen if they rebelled again.

I’m sure if I defied my boss and went against my company’s policies, I’d be out on my ear, so why should it be any different for them? We need a united Labour Party to beat the Tories.

P Phillips, Rochdale Manchester
