Corbyn rival: I might have won election
JEREMY Corbyn’s former Labour leadership rival Owen Smith has claimed he “might” have won the general election.
The MP challenged Mr Corbyn last summer but only got 38% of the vote.
He returned to the frontbench last month as Shadow Northern Secretary after Labour topped expectations in the poll.
But asked yesterday if he could have done as well as Mr Corbyn, Mr Smith said: “I hope so, I hope I might have even got us to win.”
He hastily added: “I can’t know that.”
Mr Smith also said that Mr Corbyn had “clearly galvanised young people in this country”.
