Dam Buster button £39k

-

A BUTTON which released one of the Dam Busters’ bouncing bombs has sold at auction for £39,500.

The bomb breached the Mohne dam in the raid by a squadron of Lancaster bombers in May 1943.

The attack also ruptured Germany’s Edersee dam.

More than 1,600 civilians drowned following the hits and Nazi power stations were crippled.

The release button was sold on Saturday at JP Humbert Auctioneers in Northamptonshire.
