HERO CLUBB SHRUGS OFF KIDNEY OP

- BY GARETH WALKER

TONY CLUBB scored a crucial try just 58 days after having a kidney removed as Wigan ended their longest winless league run since 1903.

Shaun Wane’s side hadn’t won in eight Super League matches to slide well off the top-four pace, and were indebted to a tackle from Joe Burgess with the score at 16-12.

Burgess then scored twice late on to seal the win, but it was the return of Clubb, whose try was disputed by the Vikings, that pleased Wane most.

The Wigan coach said: “It’s a massive credit to him. Lockers (captain Sean O’Loughlin) just said to me it’s great to have him back – he’s a big body and he’s tough.

“It’s unknown territory for us, to have a bloke have a major organ out.

“We didn’t know how long he’d be out but he’s just a winner and a competitor – and that’s why we love him.”
