EDMUND FIGHTING TO BREAK HIS DUCK

- BY NEIL McLEMAN

KYLE EDMUND has his best chance to finally win a Wimbledon match today after admitting his record here could not be any worse.

The British No.2 (above) has lost all eight of his singles and doubles matches here over the last four years.

The Yorkshireman, 22, is no fan of grass and has also been beaten in the first round at Queen’s and Eastbourne.

But today he will be the hot favourite to beat his fellow Brit and qualifier Alex Ward, 27, (inset) who is ranked No.869 on the planet.

“On paper it is probably my best chance to win a match here with the rankings,” said the world No.50. “But we are not playing on paper, we are playing on a grass court, 0-0 at the start of the match, and he’s playing well.

“Someone at that ranking qualifying for a Slam is better than that ranking.

“You don’t go out there to play the ranking, you go out there to play the man. “I just try to rationalise things and put it into perspective. I haven’t won a singles match here, so I’ve done the worst I can do by losing four first rounds.

“I don’t put pressure on myself like, ‘I need to win, I need to win’. I will win at some point.

“Hopefully, it is this time, but if it’s not then I will just keep on doing my best.”
