“I feel a lot more comfortabl­e on the grass courts. I love playing on Centre Court, feel really comfortabl­e out there. So that definitely helps.”

His opponent Bublik reported he saw no problems with the movement of the defending champion.

“He wasn’t struggling – he was playing good, he was running down everything at the net,” said the world No.134.

“He was very fast. I had a dive volley, the first time I’ve ever done it and he reached it. I was like, ‘Can you please lose one point?’.”

Konta showed no signs of the back injury which forced her out of Eastbourne last week as she overpowere­d the former doubles No.1.

She said: “I felt absolutely fine. I’m not feeling any pain.”
