Lags ‘Jewish for the food’

PRISONERS are believed to be pretending to be Jewish to get better meals.

Some 111 inmates eat kosher at HMP Edinburgh, costing it almost £250,000 extra a year, a report found.

But a source said: “Ever since one guy converted to Judaism, we’ve seen a huge rise in the number claiming to be Jewish as they saw the meals were better.”

The report, by HM Inspectorate of Prisons for Scotland, called for an “urgent investigation” into the legitimacy of claims.
